Joseph Albano DO, MBA is an orthopaedic surgeon at Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeons of New Jersey who specializes in minimally invasive and motion-sparing spine surgery using the most advanced technology available. In fact, Dr. Albano implanted the first Simplify Cervical Artificial Disc in the United States.
“People’s bodies were made to move, and my goal is to help them get back to doing the things that are important to them,” Dr. Albano said. “Whenever possible, I will use motion-sparing techniques like artificial disc replacement so people can go back to their normal lives.”
Dr. Albano also believes that surgery should be a last resort after extensive conservative care has been exhausted. Dr. Albano focuses on listening to his patients carefully in order to tailor a thoughtful and individualized treatment plan for each patient’s specific symptoms.
Dr. Albano received his undergraduate degree in biology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He then earned a master’s degree in biomedical sciences at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, where he also completed his Doctor of Osteopathy degree. While in medical school, Dr. Albano also received his Master of Business Administration at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Albano completed his orthopedic surgery training at the Plainview Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra, Northwell Health, in Long Island New York, where he was elected Chief Resident. Dr. Albano then went on to complete his fellowship in Spine Surgery at the world-renowned Texas Back Institute in the Dallas, Texas area. Here, he was trained in the most cutting-edge spine surgery techniques and technologies, including navigation and robotic-assisted surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery techniques. At the Texas Back Institute, Dr. Albano trained with the world leaders in cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty, and other motion preservation techniques of the spine, as an alternative to traditional fusion procedures.
